After downloading the Windows 10 October 2020 third patch, some users receive a ” Download of Office 365 file failed, error = ” error message when trying to update the latest versions of Office. Microsoft has yet to reveal a fix for the problem, which means that to work around this temporarily, users have to uninstall the faulty Windows update, then update Office, and then reinstall the Windows patch.Microsoft engineer David James tweeted that the problem appears to be caused by Windows 10 updates generating a certification error, which prevents some Configuration Managers from downloading Office updates. This Office update error is not the only problem users have encountered with recent Windows patches. There have also been reports of Windows 10 October patches causing File Explorer crashes and even blue-screens.
Microsoft recommends that those who want to update to this version should use the Windows Update tool integrated into Windows Settings, avoid updating through other external tools to avoid errors.
